A true hidden gem in Richmond. The low ratings on Yelp and Google don't do the justice. They serve the best Shanghainese food I've had in recent years. I recommend every dish we got. Unlike some other Shanghainese restaurants, their food doesn't taste too oily or heavy. Spring Onion Sauce Stirred Noodle 蔥油開洋拌面** - Deep Fried Pork Steak 上海炸豬排** - Deep Fried Steamed Gluten 上海特色烤麩 - Wonton Soup (Pork and Vegetable) 薺菜大餛飩 I've been constantly searching for good sheng jian bao, and I found one that lives up to my expectation here. Each piece had a half-fluffy half-crispy texture, with a golden bottom and juicy pork fillings. The buns were made to order, so it came piping hot. My second favorite was the scallion stirred noodles. It was a simple, humble yet fragrant dry noodle seasoned with dried shelled shrimps and scallion oil. I am not Chinese, but I was living in China for long enough to know how Shanghai dumpling should taste. I understand that recipe could be a little bit different from place to place However, Shanghai dumplings, or 生煎包, appearance, shape and flavor are pretty specific. Even in China, it’s ... not something that you can eat everywhere. For example, in the city I lived in Jiangsu, there were only 1-2 places where they cooked 上海生煎包. Therefore, in Canada, I sometimes miss those wonderful dumplings. Mostly, they are with pork inside. But for me, the best taste is when whole large shrimp is covered in pork inside the dumpling. We live in Calgary and we’re not able to find good place with Shanghai dumplings. There is one place in Edmonton that is good enough. Why when we were traveling to Vancouver, our must stop point was Dong Tai Xiang Shanghai Dim Sum. I was searching online and was not able to find Shanghai dumplings with shrimp and pork elsewhere in Vancouver . And I don’t really like only with pork. The atmosphere was very similar to those small places where we sometimes had our dinner in Yancheng, China. It was nice to feel a little bit in China again. To our disappointment, the dumplings were not what we expected. They looked the same, but not taste the same. The dough was kinda sweet and more like fried buns, not like Shanghai dumplings. And the most important part - Dumplings were not juicy at all. When you bite real Shanghai dumpling the hot broth splash around, that is how juicy they should to be…. I was a regular visitor of the first Dong Tai Xiang restaurant in Shanghai. The food here is the same quality. I was really impressed and felt nostalgic. Will definitely recommend!

We used to be a loyal customers, and eat at this restaurant a lot, and also order Uber eats when feeling staying at home. The price they set on Uber are ridiculous, more like 30-40% premium on top of already very pricy menu prices. We ordered a salad dish which ... cost around $17 on Uber and it came with so little size, we are very disappointed, and will never order them again on Uber. This Restaurant should really think about how to make a profitable and reputable business , not by hijacking unreasonably high price for their loyal customers. Read more

I admit this place caught our eye because of its namesake, so we ASSUMED they would have steamed soup dumplings. NO they do not but have pan fried ones which are more bun like than dumpling. Still good but my daughter and I were disappointed. Nonetheless, I also ordered the ... pork and veggie wontons which were very densely packed, with a light chicken broth.
