Hy’s Steakhouse - Toronto, Ontario

This steakhouse is nice, comfortable, old school-like modern, and easy to get to in the financial district. It was my first time trying Hy’s and my husband’s second time at another location. Service was mediocre: we made reservations for our wedding anniversary and the hostess greeted us by congratulating us on ... our milestone and overall, was super friendly. Our server however, was not as attentive… we had to flag him down a couple of times for a couple of things… he never came back to ask how our meal was going, but, he was also not rude or anything. I expected a little more friendliness and attention as we were dining here but I’m not entirely mad either, just a little disappointed. Food was good, not over the top good but good. Everything was done to our liking and drinks as well. Their crab cake, although I see value in it, was too small for their price tag. Delicious, yes, but I don’t think I’ll be ordering that again. I have dined at Hys for years and this past weekend. Service is always 10/10 atmosphere is sophisticated and classy. You feel sexy walking into the open bar area.10/10. The first restaurant my wife and I visited when we arrived in Toronto for vacation. The interior design and the décor was absolutely beautiful. The music that was played had a 70's vibe and was fantastic. Our server, Johnathon provided exemplary service. Probably one of the ... best servers we ever had. But the food... The food was absolutely sub par and not worth the ridiculous amount of money that was charged. The Cheese Toast appetizer was actually the best part of our meal. My wife had the Steak Neptune. She said the steak was incredible, but the crab meat on top was cheap and had no flavor whatsoever. Our server even had the chef remake the crab meat and it was the same. I had the Porterhouse. It was low quality, on par with a steak I could get at Outback or Longhorn. The Whipped Potatoes were good, but the Creamed Spinach was also flavorless.
